Above: Although undated this drawing of a French Foreign Legionnaire was drawn by Clifford probably around 1939. Attributed to his
so-called Fez Diary because it was drawn on the same State Exposition Building stationary used in most of the surviving diary pages,
the drawing may not have actually been included in his journal by Clifford. Another example of Clifford's whimsical side, the sketch
may have been done while Clifford was working as technical advisor on the film
Beau Geste or it may simply have been s short trip
down memory lane to his own days in the Legion.
